Career & mandate

From prison to the hemicycle: A historic victory for the popular will. Elected MP on December 27, 2025 from his prison cell in Abidjan with 59.2% of the vote, Honorable Innocent Yao demonstrated that the trust of constituents transcends political trials.

On June 4, 2025, amidst political tensions, Innocent Yao was arrested and incarcerated at the Pôle Pénitentiaire d’Abidjan (PPA). Rather than dimming his popular support, this test ignited an unprecedented wave of community solidarity. Designated PDCI-RDA candidate for Constituency 109, a surrogate campaign led by traditional chiefs, women, and youth secured a historic victory with 59.2% of the vote from inside a cell.

Granted provisional release on January 7, 2026, Honorable Innocent Yao immediately assumed his seat in the National Assembly. Today, he embodies a proximity-driven mandate focused on women's empowerment, rural youth employment, local infrastructure, and legislative accountability.

  • Proximity & ListeningConstant presence on the ground across villages, hamlets, and sub-prefectures.
  • Resilience & CourageUncompromising defense of citizen rights and social justice.
  • Rural EmpowermentUnwavering support for farmers, cooperatives, and rural youth.
